Failure Cock demo!

After our last gig last year, Scarp and I re-imagined Failure Cock's sound; we've been rehearsing and jamming as much as possible this year, with Scarp on guitar and loops, and myself on drums. We're working up a No Wave-ish sound, and we're digging it.
Here's a rough demo from a session that will eventually end up on our Bandcamp page. We've been slowly getting stuff recorded with Protools at Scarp's Tenderloin District rehearsal studio.
We have one show booked for a bit later this year, more news on that as it draws nearer.

Cloud Building-Studio One Art Center, Oakland CA; 6/5/15

Oakland on a Friday evening most definitely has the feel of human tiredness: people have worked all week, and that fatigue seems to make everything slow down a bit. People want to chill. Studio One had that feeling last night as Sheila Bosco, Brian Lucas, and myself set up for our brief set, played in between poets John Shoptaw and Shane Book.
As for that set, its twenty four minutes or so also had that chilled-out aspect, as Sheila played vaguely Classical strains on her keyboard, Brian added with tape sounds, and I colored with small gongs, waterphone, and other percussion. Our sound felt very airy to me, quietly introspective, as if we were chatting with each other. Hopefully the audience members enjoyed their vantage into our talking! I surely enjoyed hearing the poetry of Shoptaw and Book.
Thanks to Brian for setting this one up.

The Flying Pontecorvos-Luggage Store Gallery, SF CA; 6/4/15

Back to the Luggage Store I went, and oh, how I love their current location! It's just really great to be able to watch the weirdness of 6th St. and Market St. in SF as we play!
And play we did! The Pontecorvo family band, aka the Flying Pontecorvos had me as their drummer for a sweet set of extended improvisations and guided passages.
We worked up one continuous piece, made up of about four different zones that were loosely conducted by Mika. We hit some really nice free parts, along with some more meat 'n potatoes Funk/Jazz. It was especially cool to hear and play along with Adriane's very good cello riffs and Mika's always raw flute. And Eli? Solid as ever on his six string bass. What a talented family.
Additionally, we helped out Alphastare on his set, as Jeff graciously invited us to join in after he set up his initial sound matrix. I wore a mask and got weird. YES!
All told, a very fun and rewarding musical evening! Thanks to Outsound!
